Elena Martines

Elena Martines is a Member of the Cabinet of Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva, responsible for Innovation Policy with a focus on startups and scaleup. Her portfolio in the cabinet includes oversight of the European Innovation Council, the European Institute of Technology, the Start‑up and Scale‑up strategy and forum, and managing relations with the European Investment Bank group. Elena has a degree in mechanical engineering and a PhD in tissue engineering. Prior to joining the Cabinet she headed the Coordination and Analytics Team in the European Innovation Council.
